I am currently using a software program called ISIS, which
permits comparison of chemical structures. I was hoping to find an
inexpensive source for a listing of chemicals similar to the Merck Index,
in the form of software or CD-ROM.

Although ISIS allows me to draw and create my own database, it is
time consuming and I was looking for a short cut.

There are several databases with structures of commercially available compounds
(many from Aldrich and Apin Chemicals (England)). MDL (Molecular Design Ltd,
San Leandro, CA, USA) puts out such a data base. There is certainly an
interface for ISIS. Merck Index will go CD-ROM in 4th quarter '95 so they tell
me.
