ELECTIONS
On Tuesday, every vote counts. We must not allow reactionary forces to
make further gains as a result of women voters' disillusionment. If disgust
with the current crisis depresses women's votes, we will face a Congress
even more hostile to feminist issues and a roll-back of reproductive rights.
Your vote is the only way to put an end to the keyhole peeping by the House
Judiciary Committee and to stop the attacks on our rights in the states and
in Congress. Women have been counted in the endless array of opinion polls.
Now it's time to be heard in the only poll that really counts -- the
voting booth.
To find out which candidates are endorsed by NOW's federal PAC (NOW/PAC)
and NOW state PACs as well as information about ballot initiatives, connect

To read more about why attacks on reproductive rights make women's vote
crucial in 1998, see http://www.now.org/nnt/fall-98/repro.html
Go to NOW's Reproductive Rights (http://www.now.org/issues/abortion/ ) and
Affirmative Action (http://www.now.org/issues/affirm/) pages for background
information on these issues, which appear in some states' ballot initiatives.
SUPPORT JERRIE COBB
Jerrie Cobb is a 67-year-old aviator with more than 35 years of experience.
She began training for the space program in 1960. At that time, she had
logged over 10,000 hours of flight time, twice much as any of the other
trainees, including John Glenn. Nonetheless, she was denied the
opportunity to fly because NASA deemed women unsuitable for space travel.
NASA still won't let Cobb fly – even though she is qualified, fit and ready
to serve the space program and science.
Hillary Rodham Clinton is willing to lobby NASA on Ms. Cobb's behalf, but
she needs your help. Send letters of support for Jerrie to Ms. Clinton
(email mailto:first.lady@whitehouse.gov or fax 202-456-2461) or circulate
NOW's petition (http://www.now.org/actions/cobb.html).
